A Sacred Joy

As we enter a new year, I am not making resolutions so that I can make a list of the “things” I have “accomplished”. I am asking myself what do I want to reclaim, learn, feel, see, understand, experience? How do I want to grow?

Remember that one time when you said yes to the things that scared you? Remember when that tiny fluttering feeling of fear actually transformed into a fantastical peace? Yeah. Do that again and again until you burst into bloom. Take that walk. Jump in that cold creek. Have that conversation. Go on that drive. See that friend. Write that song. Make that phone call. Take that course. Book the flight. Print all the photographs and cherish the memories. Do that one thing and don’t tell a soul about it. Privacy is powerful. Ask yourself; are you doing all of this because you are passionate or are you simply seeking recognition? In the fancy spectacle of life, aspire to find a sacred joy that does not require an audience.
